What is a Work Camp?
Work Camping is an opportunity for a group to be in Christian service to persons
in need of home repairs -- an opportunity to put your faith in action. It is a
way to display in a real, concrete and visible way your commitment to a ministry
of love and compassion. Work Camping is an opportunity for you to experience the
real presence of Jesus Christ in your own life by reaching out to someone in
need. Work Camping is an opportunity to respond to Jesus' call to "Follow me."
What will you do?
Work Camp groups can expect to do such repairs as roofing, painting, siding,
light carpentry repairs and building or repairing porches and wheelchair ramps.
The work you will do will depend largely on the skill level of your group and
the supervision you are able to bring. We will work closely with you to ensure
that the work you do is challenging... but also within your abilities.
Where will you stay?
Typically, work camp groups are housed by a local congregation or in our Retreat
House next to the Center. This usually means that the fellowship hall is made
available for the group to sleep in. Work camp groups are also expected to
provide their own meals, which may be cooked in the host church kitchen.
How much does it cost?
The cost of a work camp experience in Robeson County has been kept as low as
possible. The fee, which is used to provide the supplies, materials, tools and
other items needed to run a work camp ministry, is $30.00 per person for each
working day. A four day work camp would cost $120.00 per person. In order to
reserve a date, there is a $400.00 non-refundable deposit for each team.
