Tsunami Disaster Giving Instructions – UMCOR Advance #274305 “South Asia Emergency”
There have been some recent questions regarding how local churches should give for United Methodist Committee on Relief’s (UMCOR’s) response to the tsunami disaster.
This is handled as any other Advance gift.
Simply have your congregation place their gift in the Sunday offering plate, designating the gift to: UMCOR Advance #274305."South Asia Emergency.”
If giving by check, it can be made out to the local church, The NC Conference, or UMCOR. As long as someplace on the check is designated “UMCOR Advance 274305, South Asia Emergency,” 100% of the funds will go to relief efforts. Your church treasurer should then forward those funds through the Conference Treasurer as you would do with any other Advance gift or special offering.
If congregants desire, they can make donations directly to UMCOR:

Again, checks should be designated for UMCOR Advance #274305."South Asia Emergency."
As long as the name of the church, district, and conference (or church numerical designation) is listed on the check, your church should receive credit for the Advance gift.
Credit-card donations may be made by calling 1-800-554-8583, or anyone can use UMC.org's secure server. Note, when giving by credit card, the local church might not receive credit for Advance Special giving.
