North Carolina Annual Conference
and Iglesia Metodista Del Peru (Methodist Church of Peru)
Reaffirmation of Our Mutual Covenant
Our Original Covenant Declaration Reads:
The covenant agreement ratified by the North Carolina Annual Conference reads as
follows:
We, the members of the North Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist
Church, in session June 1990, hereby affirm our covenant in Christ with our
sisters and brothers of the Iglesia Metodista del Peru. As an expression of that
covenant bond, we will call upon the Cabinet and agencies of this Annual
Conference to encourage and lead the Annual Conference, districts, and local
congregations to enter into covenant/partner relationship with the Iglesia
Metodista del Peru, for prayer and other forms of mutual support, engagements,
and communication as determined by and agreed upon by the communities of faith
entering into such a covenant relationship.
The covenant declaration of the IMP reads as follows:
The
12th General Assembly of the Methodist Church of Peru, meeting January 25-28,
1990, received with much joy in the Lord, the willingness to ratify the
discipleship covenant between the North Carolina Annual Conference of the United
Methodist Church of the USA and the Methodist Church of Peru. We recognize that
you, as well as we, must pray together, support one another, get to know each
other more, and exchange experiences in such a manner that with total trust in
our Lord Jesus Christ we will walk together, striving for mutual growth and
benefit of our churches. Thus, we affirm also the willingness to establish the
discipleship covenant with the North Carolina Annual Conference. "We are
partners in the work of service to our God. . ." (I Cor. 3:9).
Therefore, be it resolved, that the 2006 North Carolina
Annual Conference reaffirm our mutual expression of covenant community between
the North Carolina Annual Conference and the Iglesia Metodista Del Peru,
acknowledging our commitment to love and the proclamation of our partnership in
Jesus Christ.
