Mary
and Herbert Zigbuo, are our missionaries to Liberia. Though there
are always multiple needs in Liberia, here are some special requests:
Here is a message from Herbert Zigbuo – the Director of the Ganta Medical Mission Station in Liberia. They have some deep needs and he asks for your assistance and support. At the end of his letter, he offers a number for the Advance: Ganta United Methodist Mission Station, # 14369T. You can give to this by making a check out to your local church, clearly noting the Advance in the remarks section of the check so that your treasurer will know this is for the Advance. Your treasurer will then forward those funds through the Conference and on to Liberia. 100% of your gift will go to the Ganta Medical Station. You can also send your gift directly to the NC UMC Conference Treasurer. Please make checks payable to: NC Conference/Raleigh Area, The United Methodist Church, PO Box 60053, Charlotte, NC 28260-0053 Mark on envelope and check: Attn: Ganta United Methodist Mission Station, # 14369T
Unfortunately, you cannot give to this project number on-line; however, you can give by credit or debit card by calling: (888) 252-6174 Donating by calling is a great way to give, but do know that your church will not get “formal” credit in the Advance system. For consideration for the North Carolina Conference Rainbow Covenant, simply pass the info to your missions chair and when submitting your Rainbow Covenant forms, include the gift in the appropriate line item and let us know. The Office of Missions will certainly honor the phone gift.
Dear Friends, Warm greetings from Ganta Mission Station. This is as an APPEAL for funds to assist with our general mission station work that is done through the Ganta Mission Station Maintenance Ministry/Unit. As you maybe aware, Ganta Mission Station is located on a 600-acre campus and was established to the glory of God to cater to the medical, educational, and spiritual needs of poor, rural, subsistence farming families in northeastern Liberia.
1. Christian-based education is offered through its elementary through senior high level vocational grade school; 2. medical needs are met in a Christ-centered manner through its hospital; 3. medical staff are given Christ-centered nursing education through its nursing school; 4. people afflicted with leprosy and tuberculosis are provided with Christ-centered medical care through its Leprosarium; 5. farmers are taught agricultural skills aimed at increasing crop and livestock yields through its Christ-centered agriculture program; 6. the good news of Jesus Christ is shared through the various ministries of the mission station church. The administrative arm of the mission station is the Maintenance Ministry, or Maintenance Unit. This unit seeks to provide maintenance to mission station residences (twenty eight houses), water system, power system, roads, grounds, school, hospital, various shops (mechanic, carpentry, building construction), and church. The Unit does this through a staff of 90 persons.
Through the carpentry and mechanic shops, practical on-the-job skills training is provided for various vocational schools in the region, the Ganta United Methodist School students, as well as ex-combatants through a special Ex-Combatant Vocational Training Program.
By the grace of God we are slowly revitalizing our services after the forced closure of the mission station for a period of over one year as a result of the civil war. All mission station ministries re-opened in 2004. Bit by bit, we are rebuilding the residences, shops, water and power systems, and various institutions.
General mission station funds are almost exhausted. Along with donated funds, we are able to raise local funds through our charges for services provided through our carpentry and mechanic shops, our guest house, and our mission station cafeteria. The locally generated funds subsidize our monthly payroll.
We are in need of funds to allow us continue this revitalization effort. We are praying for donations of funds: 1. to purchase fuel to operate our generators (we have electricity for nine hours in a 24 hour period); 2. to purchase building supplies to continue the renovation of our residential areas and institutions; 3. to purchase tools and equipments for our shops; 4. to purchase spare parts for maintenance of our vehicles. Should you desire to make a donation, you may do so through the General Board of Global Ministries Advance Special Program, by using the following advance special listing: Ganta United Methodist Mission Station, # 14369T
Our Lord continues to provide all that we need through your generous support of funds and materials. This is critical to the success of the various ministries of the mission station and we will appreciate any donation you can make towards this effort.
Training Kits are an additional need for the people going to these classes who do not have access to school supplies or the money to purchase them. A kit should include 5 spiral notebooks, a pack each of blue and black ink pens, a pack of pencils, a pencil sharpener, an inexpensive calculator, 2 reams of paper, 4 boxes of chalk, an inflatable globe (found at the dollar stores) and a small dictionary. Please pack in an inexpensive book bag, a small box or a sturdy plastic bag. (See shipping information page.)
Mary and Herbert would like to know if you are participating in this effort.
Their email address is:
umcliberia@yahoo.com Education is the only hope for improvement in this war-weary, poor nation. We can help make this happen. A school kit is a good Sunday School class or circle project. The Jeep project is larger and would make a good church wide project. Thank you for considering this as part of God’s mission on this earth.
Sincerely, Rev. Herbert Zigbuo Missionary assigned as Superintendent Ganta United Methodist Mission Station
